We welcome you to Maricopa Elementary School. You'll find our campus at 18150 N. Alterra Parkway in the growing city of Maricopa, Arizona. We provide world-class education for Kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as an excellent preschool program. Our entire community supports and inspires our kids to be and do their very best.
We provide this Web site to offer valuable information and resources to our students, parents, and community. You'll find news and events, contact information for our wonderful staff, and much more. We invite you to become a part of Maricopa Elementary, where we're taking tradition into the future.
Three is the magic number!
The 2008 – 2009 school year will be our third year in the new beautiful building. Our first year included instructing children with a campus under construction, no lunchroom, no media center, and ½ of our campus fenced off. Through these struggles, the PTO formed, test scores rose, and new traditions were established.
As a new school, the parent volunteers managed to create the Maricopa Elementary School PTO, and, like the staff, they hit the ground running. Their first order of business began with a large-scale fundraiser, raising money for each classroom. They worked with the school staff in supporting any ideas, such as our Pumpkin Walk and Winter Express events. This year they have continued to build their repertoire of talents. Popcorn Friday has taken on a life of its own and the money raised has been unbelievable. Many parent volunteers have dedicated themselves to popping popcorn and helping with the parking lot. Thank you.
Our first carnival was a huge success; the staff, PTO, and the community worked together making the experience memorable. We are looking forward to our first annual Sock Hop on May 9th.
Our teachers and paraprofessionals worked endlessly during the 2006 – 2007 school year to raise test scores and they were successful! With all the challenges of construction and having such a large campus, the teaching remained outstanding. We added several additional staff members to our campus in 2007- 2008 who all brought along innovative ideas. Our behavior program was refined with the addition of Mr. Aaron Harris I, the new Assistant Principal. Mr. Harris has taken the responsibility-thinking model and worked with staff to create an effective process for managing student behavior.
In the 2008 – 2009 school year, we are planning to maintain the high level of instruction with a campus of approximately 750 students.
We plan to maintain the traditions set these past two years. These traditions include: Pumpkin Walk, Turkey Trot, Winter Express, Spring Carnival, Academic Celebration/Talent Show, and our monthly guest speakers (thank you, Mr. Harris). We have many plans for our magical third year; some of which include: intramurals, a multicultural celebration week, training and use of a Smart board, increased use of interactive video conferencing and much, much more.
In closing, I would encourage all parents to please stay involved. Our children are the future and our legacy. They are children for only a short time, now is the time to be are part of their lives. Research indicates children are more successful in school, and in their adult life, when their parents are involved. Speaking from experience, I wouldn’t trade any memories; not even the one when I spent a cold night Boy Scout camping, out on the snow and in the rain. Believe me, it is time spent with my son that will stay in our hearts forever.
Best wishes,

Bonnie Gibson, Principal
